Birchwood Cottages is a locally owned and managed memory care community located in Owatonna and North Mankato. Their communities provide specialized care to those living with Alzheimer’s Disease and other related dementias, or whose medical conditions require more advanced care. The first building opened in Owatonna in December of 2015, and grew with the addition of a second building in June of 2017. With the ongoing success of the Owatonna community another location opened in North Mankato the following year.
The mission of Birchwood Cottages is to serve those with memory loss in an environment filled with passion and purpose. Their staff is committed to providing a higher quality of life and person-centered care for the residents and their families. To achieve this commitment, all staff are specially trained in dementia care and are motivated to make a positive impact in the lives of their residents while creating a culture of excellence. With this, staff are able to cultivate meaningful relationships with residents and their families to properly meet care needs. This passion and dedication further extends to the greater community through partnerships, outreach, and fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association and other groups.
Each community is designed to be memory care friendly and safe with a smaller open concept layout that encourages socialization and feels like home. Buildings have heated floors, state-of-the-art technology for safety and monitoring, daily life enrichment programming, and homemade meals. Families of residents are welcome to enjoy a complimentary meal and dine with their loved ones, and participate in the many activities held daily. When not busy in an activity, residents can walk through the beautiful courtyards and relax on the patio on a sunny day or relax with a book in one of the many sunrooms.
